Online Training Description:

Clinical supervision plays a vital role in supporting new clinicians and maintaining high standards of client care. It helps to ensure the development of professional skills, encourages self-reflection, and promotes self-awareness among supervisees. Dr. Michelle Yep Martin developed this training to address the challenges and risks inherent in clinical supervision of counselors, social workers, and psychologists. The training explores the roles of the supervisor and supervisee, as well as the feedback loop between them. It reviews the codes of ethics of these three professions and describes common ethical issues in supervisory practice, including maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in the supervisory relationship.

Dr. Michelle Yep Martin has long supervised clinicians for licensure and approved provider statuses. Her approach to this material is accessible to beginning as well as more experienced supervisors. Among the topics covered are:

  • Recognizing and addressing biases in clinical supervision
  • Navigating common ethical issues in clinical supervision
  • Making ethical decisions
  • Identifying and addressing gaps in cultural competence
  • Understanding and managing boundary crossings and violations

This training gives supervisors practical strategies and clear guidance for handling challenges in clinical supervision. Participants leave with useful tools to support their supervisees’ growth and to manage common issues that come up in everyday practice.

Learning Objectives

As a result of this training, attendees will be better able to:
1) Explain the role of supervisor and supervisee in clinical supervision
2) Outline steps in making ethical decisions
3) Describe how gaps in cultural competence can impact the quality of supervision and the care that clients receive
4) Identify three types of biases that can be present in clinical supervision
5) List common boundary crossings that can occur in clinical supervision

This is an opportunity to share your experiences and contribute to a meaningful exchange of ideas. Time will be allocated to address questions or insights from the training. Please note that attendance is optional and will not affect your eligibility for a training certificate.

We can refund your training fee up to 24 hours prior to the start of the training.
