Working in the field of sexual and social violence prevention is challenging, and navigating disabilities can make it even more complex. Whether the disability is visible or unseen, the realities of managing personal health, professional responsibilities, and social expectations can be both exhausting and, at times, isolating.

Led by Katie Gotch, a clinical professional with lived experience of disability, and David Prescott, a mental health practitioner in the field for four decades, these sessions offer a safe, non-judgmental space to connect, share, and build strategies that can make a meaningful impact on our day-to-day challenges. Each session begins with a focused exploration of a specific topic, evolving naturally into an engaging, attendee-driven conversation shaped by shared experiences and professional insights:

  • Session 01: Let’s Talk the Reality of “Invisible” and Visible Disabilities
Friday, November 21st, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm ET
Some disabilities can be seen instantly, while others remain hidden. In this session, we’ll explore how these differences affect professional interactions, relationships with colleagues and clients, and strategies for navigating both stigma and misunderstanding in the workplace.
  • Session 02: Let’s Talk Identity After Change
Tuesday, November 25th, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm ET
When a disability enters your life—whether from birth, sudden injury, or illness—it can reshape your sense of self. In this session, we’ll discuss how to embrace a new reality without losing your core identity, ways to build self-efficacy, and how to thrive personally and professionally after change.
  • Session 03: Let’s Talk Boundaries, Balance, and Advocacy
Thursday, December 4th, from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm ET
Working in this field while managing a disability requires setting clear boundaries, especially around health-related disclosures, while still maintaining strong professional relationships. This session will explore how to decide what to share, when to share it, and how to share it in ways that support collaboration and respect your privacy. We will also discuss balancing personal wellbeing with work and family responsibilities, protecting your energy, and becoming an effective advocate for necessary accommodations and support.

These sessions are more than just conversations; they are opportunities to connect with others who truly understand the realities of living and working with disabilities. Join us for one or all three sessions. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in how we navigate and address the unique challenges that disabilities can present in our personal and professional lives.

To ensure that each session is workable, we will limit the number of attendees. Registration for each session will, therefore, be on a first-come-first-served basis. We are charging a non-refundable fee of $8.00 to reserve your spot.

Your personal privacy is our highest priority. These sessions will be recorded for liability purposes only. The recordings will not be shared with attendees or distributed outside of Safer Society Foundation.

Like any group discussion, everyone will have a responsibility to keep it a safe, professional, and confidential space. We will adhere to the codes of ethics of our professions, mandatory laws, and other professional standards. The Safe Haven series is intended to be supportive; not formal supervision, consultation, or legal advice.
