Our Safe Haven:
Supporting Youths through the Complexities of Sexually Explicit Media

Moderated by: David Prescott, LICSW, ATSA-F & Seth Wescott, LMLP, ATSA-F

Please Note: This session is not eligible for CE credits due to its informal conversational format.

The rise of sexually explicit media (SEM) across digital platforms—spanning from traditional adult websites to social media and mainstream online spaces—has created significant challenges for parents, educators, and mental health professionals. Guiding youths through their media consumption in this rapidly evolving digital landscape requires innovative strategies and collaborative efforts.

Join us for a series of professional dialogues designed to address these pressing issues. Moderated by Seth Wescott and David Prescott, these discussions provide a supportive space for professionals to share insights, develop strategies, and enhance their ability to navigate the complexities of SEM’s impact on youths. Each session will begin with a focused exploration of a specific topic, evolving naturally into an engaging, attendee-driven conversation shaped by shared experiences and professional insights:

  • Session 01: Let’s Talk SEM and Digital Landscape
    May 7, 2025, from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm ET
Explore how young people access SEM and discuss practical approaches to addressing the ever-changing digital environment and its effects on youth behavior.

  • Session 02: Let’s Talk Overcoming Discomfort of SEM
    May 27, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm ET
Share challenges you’ve faced when discussing SEM with youths. Learn from each other effective communication techniques to overcome discomfort and maintain productive conversations about explicit media consumption.

  • Session 03: Let’s Talk SEM and Sex Education
    June 11, 2025, from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm ET
Examine ways to provide accurate sexual health information while addressing the risks of SEM exposure. Discuss professional boundaries and responsibilities in educating youths about healthy sexuality in an SEM-saturated world.

  • Session 04: Let’s Talk SEM, ACEs, and Building Trust
    July 2, 2025, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm ET
Explore the intersection of SEM consumption and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), including histories of sexual victimization. Develop strategies to build trust and support youths with complex backgrounds who access explicit content.

These sessions are more than a discussion—they are opportunities to network, build skills, exchange ideas, and contribute to shaping best practices in this field. Join us to connect with like-minded professionals, gain actionable insights, and make a meaningful impact in addressing the challenges posed by SEM.

To ensure that each session is workable, we will limit the number of attendees. Registration for each session will, therefore, be on a first-come-first-served basis. We are charging a non-refundable fee of $8.00 to reserve your spot.

Your personal privacy is our highest priority. These sessions will be recorded for liability purposes only. The recordings will not be shared with attendees or distributed outside of Safer Society Foundation.

Like any group discussion, everyone will have a responsibility to keep it a safe, professional, and confidential space. We will adhere to the codes of ethics of our professions, mandatory laws, and other professional standards. The Safe Haven series is intended to be supportive; not formal supervision, consultation, or legal advice.
