WATSA is partnering with Safer Society Foundation to host a series of Our Safe Haven sessions addressing challenges commonly experienced by its members.

Our Safe Haven sessions are designed to provide a safe, non-threatening space where professionals can openly discuss the challenges of their work while connecting with others who share similar experiences. Led by David Prescott, a mental health practitioner with four decades of experience, these sessions provide a rich, meaningful experience in a supportive environment.

• Let’s Talk Navigating State Contracts
  August 28, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm PDT
  Join David Prescott, LICSW and Tim Kahn, MSW, CSOTP for a one-hour session focused on effectively managing the challenges that emerge when solo practitioners and small private practices contract with large state organizations.  Participants are invited to submit questions ahead of time or bring questions to share with our facilitators, who will guide a discussion in which we learn from one another's experiences.   
  
  
• Let’s Talk Managing High-Profile Cases
  September 11, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm PDT
  Join David Prescott, LICSW and Brian Judd, PhD, CSOTP for a one-hour session exploring the realities of working on high profile cases.  The discussion will focus on strategies for managing community backlash directed at treatment providers and evaluators, while also providing a space to connect with peers working in this demanding yet rewarding work. 

Additional sessions may be offered based on participant interest. WATSA welcomes suggestions for future topics via email.

These sessions are more than a discussion—they are opportunities to network, build skills, exchange ideas, and contribute to shaping best practices in this field. Join us to connect with like-minded professionals, gain actionable insights, and make a meaningful impact in addressing the challenges WATSA members face in this work.

To ensure that each session is workable, we will limit the number of attendees. Registration for each session will, therefore, be on a first-come-first-served basis. We are charging a non-refundable fee of $8.00 to reserve your spot.

We will adhere to the codes of ethics of our professions, mandatory laws, and other professional standards. The Safe Haven series is intended to be supportive; not formal supervision, consultation, or legal advice.
