Treatment Referral Service Closing 12/31/12

A Difficult Decision

One of the most difficult decisions a non-profit must make is to close a program, facility, or service. For many years Safer Society has been able to provide free referrals to treatment providers for those needing information about where to get specialized help for sexual behaviors.

The recent economic downturn has forced Safer Society to make budget cuts. One of the cuts included the position of public education director. This person was responsible for maintaining the referral database. We have continued to provide referrals based on our existing database for the past four years. During this time, no major update of the database has been able to be completed which has made the information increasingly unreliable. Safer Society has decided that closing the referral service is better than providing out-of-date information. Therefore after December 31, 2012, we will not be able to provide treatment referrals.

Alternate Referral Provider

Another factor in our decision was the availability of referrals through another organization. To obtain a free referral to specialized treatment for sexual behavior problems, please contact the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA). You may access their online referral form by clicking here.

We have not made this decision lightly and regret any inconvenience it may cause those who have used our referral service in the past.
