Working every day to prevent violence and abuse is demanding work, made even more complex when we are also parents and caregivers. This work takes on a special significance; the stakes feel higher, and the impact of what we see and hear often follows us home.

This work can change our worldview. At times, it can be traumatizing and lead to compassion fatigue or burnout. On the other hand, working to prevent abuse can keep us better informed, strengthen our boundaries, and make us more effective parents and caregivers. Many of us credit this work with helping us become better people overall. The relationship between abuse prevention and parenting is a two-way street: our relationships with our loved ones can influence our work, just as our professional experiences inevitably affect our lives at home.

In this pair of Our Safe Haven sessions, we invite you to join Janelle Crisp, Stacey Ginesin, and David Prescott to explore these themes in a safe and supportive space. Each session begins with a focused look at the relationship between work and our roles as parents and caregivers, evolving naturally into an engaging, attendee-driven conversation shaped by shared experiences and professional insight:

  • Session 01: Let’s Talk How Work Shapes Our Caring
March 9, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm ET
Explore how working in abuse prevention changes the way we care for our loved ones at home. Reflect on what we have witnessed and experienced in this work, and what it has taught us about caregiving.
  • Session 02: Let’s Talk How Home Shapes Our Work
March 17, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm ET
Explore how our roles as parents and caregivers influence our professional practice. Consider how the stresses and joys of caring for others have made us more innovative, more intentional, and, at times, more or less effective in our work.

These sessions are more than a discussion—they are opportunities to network, build skills, exchange ideas, and contribute to shaping best practices in this field. Join us to connect with like-minded professionals and explore the parenting and caregiving experience in abuse prevention. Along the way, we hope to gather questions and areas of interest to help inform a Safer Society survey currently in development, ensuring that real-life experiences shape future resources and support.

To ensure that each session is workable, we will limit the number of attendees. Registration for each session will, therefore, be on a first-come, first-served basis. We are charging a non-refundable fee of $8.00 to reserve your spot.

Your personal privacy is our highest priority. These sessions will be recorded for liability purposes only. The recordings will not be shared with attendees or distributed outside of Safer Society Foundation.

Like any group discussion, everyone will have a responsibility to keep it a safe, professional, and confidential space. We will adhere to the codes of ethics of our professions, mandatory laws, and other professional standards. The Safe Haven series is intended to be supportive; not formal supervision, consultation, or legal advice.
