Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is essential for all people’s health, development, and wellbeing. It goes beyond simple biological facts to encompass emotional, social, and ethical aspects of sexuality, giving clients in treatment the skills and understanding they need to navigate life’s challenges responsibly and respectfully. UNESCO defined “sexuality” in 2018 as:

“A core dimension of being human which includes: the understanding of, and relationship to, the human body; emotional attachment and love; sex; gender; gender identity; sexual orientation; sexual intimacy; pleasure and reproduction. Sexuality is complex and includes biological, social, psychological, spiritual, religious, political, legal, historic, ethical and cultural dimensions that evolve over a lifespan.”

In this Our Safe Haven, we invite you to join practitioner Robin Cooper and David Prescott to explore CSE as its own kind of cultural competence, particularly for professionals working with clients who have experienced or committed acts of violence and sexual abuse.

The session will begin with a focused review of a comprehensive sexuality education, evolving naturally into an engaging, attendee-driven conversation shaped by shared experiences and professional insights. Topics that may be addressed include:

1) Gaining a clearer understanding of comprehensive sexuality education.
2) Understanding our own beliefs about various sexual topics (gender, sexuality, sexual acts, consent, etc.).
3) Exploring how our beliefs impact our work.
4) Identifying our discomforts when talking about sex and sexuality with clients.
5) Better integrating consent in the work we do.
6) Exploring how talking about sex and sexuality openly affects the work with people who have engaged in nonconsensual sexual behaviors.

These sessions are more than a discussion—they are opportunities to network, build skills, exchange ideas, and contribute to shaping best practices in this field. Join us to connect with like-minded professionals, gain actionable insights, and make a meaningful impact in navigating sexuality education competency.

To ensure that each session is workable, we will limit the number of attendees. Registration for each session will, therefore, be on a first-come-first-served basis. We are charging a non-refundable fee of $8.00 to reserve your spot.

Your personal privacy is our highest priority. These sessions will be recorded for liability purposes only. The recordings will not be shared with attendees or distributed outside of Safer Society Foundation.
