Jay Herman, LCSW, has worked in the field of sexual violence prevention and education since 2013. Jay has worked with teens and adults in various settings including residential, educational, occupational, policy, and clinical, serving people impacted by sexual violence, domestic violence, and systemic oppression. Jay’s clinical career expanded in 2020 when they joined the KB Forensics team, working with people who have engaged in unhealthy and harmful sexual behaviors. In addition to being a member of ATSA since 2020, Jay has spent the last five years working in private practice, providing individual, family and relationship counseling to queer and trans clients. In all of their clinical practice, Jay uses a person-centered and trauma responsive approach with somatic, cognitive-behavioral, creative arts, and psychodynamic modalities and views mental health through a social justice lens. Jay continues to work with KB Forensics, providing therapy to teens and conducting court evaluations while running their private practice, Birdsong Psychotherapy, in Poughkeepsie, NY. As a multimedia artist, Jay holds the spirit of co-creation in therapeutic and educational spaces, valuing the creation and evolution of self as liberatory practice for a more just world.
