Safer Society has a dedicated team that plays a crucial role in furthering its mission. Each individual brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the organization, ensuring that the foundation is well-equipped to fulfill its role in providing preventive and restorative responses to sexual and social violence.

Mary Falcon
Executive Director
Mary considers the Continuing Education Center and the New Circle Mentoring program her two greatest accomplishments as executive director of Safer Society Foundation, a position she has held since 2014. She began her first job at Safer Society as editor of the Press in 2011. She and Steve Zeoli still talk about what they went through to get books published the year that Hurricane Irene wreaked havoc on Vermont and rendered Safer Society temporarily homeless. Except for the two years she spent overseas at a US Army base teaching adult education, Mary’s entire professional career has been in book publishing, from sales and marketing to book acquisitions and development at Random House, Harper Collins, and Houghton Mifflin Company. Although she quit New York City life 20 years ago to live in rural Vermont, her language has been known to revert to its Bronx roots when she gets riled up.

Stephen Zeoli
Director of the Safer Society Press
Steve has been a marketing communications specialist for nearly four decades and has been with Safer Society Foundation since 2005. Before that, he was in the marketing office at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont, and in the 1980s helmed the marketing efforts of Cannondale Bicycle Corporation. For the past twelve years, Steve has volunteered his time as president of a local historical society, The Mount Independence Coalition. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont. In 1981, Steve completed an 11-month, 13,000-mile bicycle trip around America. He and his wife, Amy, live in Hubbardton, Vermont.

Sarah Snow Haskell
Director of Operations
Sarah joined the team in 2015 as the Sales, Marketing & Media Supervisor, and Bookkeeper and was promoted to the role of Director of Operations in 2021. She holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont. Her passion for accounting was further nurtured through training with Safer Society's Certified Public Accountant. Beyond her financial expertise, Sarah harnesses her creativity and technical skills to maintain and craft engaging digital content for the Foundation's online platforms. Outside of her professional endeavors, Sarah finds joy in nurturing her garden and cherishing moments with her husband and feline friends.

David Prescott, LICSW
Director of the Continuing Education Center
A mental health practitioner of 40 years, David is the Director of the Continuing Education Center at Safer Society Foundation. He is the author and editor of 20 books in the areas of understanding and improving services to at-risk clients. He is best known for his work in the areas of understanding, assessing, and treating sexual violence and trauma. Henry Kempe Lifetime Achievement award. He currently trains and lectures around the world.

Michelle Shubert
Assistant Operations Manager
Michelle joined the team in 2021 as an Administrative Associate and was promoted to Assistant Operations Manager in 2023. She holds a bachelor’s degree in strategic and entrepreneurial management from the University of Maryland. Beyond her professional pursuits, Michelle is an advocate for nonprofit causes, a passion that permeates both her personal and professional life. Furthermore, Michelle is an avid creator who uses her crafty talents and administrative skills to support local charities.
