As mental health professionals, we recognize the importance of creating inclusive and supportive environments for all individuals, especially those from marginalized groups that have traditionally experienced limited access to mental health resources. This Our Safe Haven series, co-moderated by Jimmy Widdifield, Jr., and David Prescott, aims to bring together allies and LGBTQ+ practitioners to improve our collective support for the LGBTQ+ community in mental health services.

We invite individuals who are committed to LGBTQ+ affirming care—both allies and LGBTQ+ practitioners—to participate in the Our Safe Haven sessions. These gatherings offer a platform for open dialogue, shared learning, and collaborative problem-solving to enhance our support for individuals with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.

Our sessions explore various topics, including:

  1. Understanding and addressing the chronic social pressures faced by LGBTQ+ individuals
  2. Recognizing and mitigating professional biases that affect both LGBTQ+ clients and practitioners
  3. Accessing and sharing specialized knowledge and training resources
  4. Navigating ethical and professional challenges in LGBTQ+-affirming care
  5. Developing strategies to create more inclusive and supportive environments in mental health practices

By fostering collaboration and mutual learning, we can enhance our ability to provide effective, affirming care for LGBTQ+ clients and create a more supportive professional community for LGBTQ+ practitioners.

Join us in strengthening our allyship and improving mental health support for the LGBTQ+ community. Together, we can foster a positive impact within our professional community and contribute to meaningful change.

To ensure that each session is workable, we will limit the number of attendees. Registration for each session will, therefore, be on a first-come-first-served basis. We are charging a non-refundable fee of $8.00 to reserve your spot.

Your personal privacy is our highest priority. These sessions will be recorded for liability purposes only. The recordings will not be shared with attendees or distributed outside of Safer Society Foundation.

Like any group discussion, everyone will have a responsibility to keep it a safe, professional, and confidential space. We will adhere to the codes of ethics of our professions, mandatory laws, and other professional standards. The Safe Haven series is intended to be supportive; not formal supervision, consultation, or legal advice.
