Building Hope and Motivation with Suicidal Clients in Criminal Justice

“About two in five people who are incarcerated have a history of mental illness (37% in state and federal prisons and 44% held in local jails).” – NAMI

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. The number of incarcerated people with mental illness is twice the rate of the overall adult population (NAMI). To help in the prevention of suicide, we are hosting a free one-hour webinar with Senior Training Consultant and Motivational Interviewing Trainer for the Department of Justice and Public Safety, Nathalie Cyr.

In this webinar interview, host David Prescott and interviewee Nathalie Cyr explore methods for helping suicidal people involved in the justice system. Among the skills they discuss are those used in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and Motivational Interviewing.
