2. Describe the components of effective treatment, including assessment-driven programming, the SOAP framework (Stable, Occupied, Accountable, Plan), and disclosure as a running start into a better life rather than an endpoint.
3. Summarize the research showing that punishment on its own does not reduce reoffending risk, and identify what effective treatment requires instead.
4. Define ambivalence as competing motivations for and against change, and apply tools such as options menus and the importance/confidence scale to explore it.
5. Apply core motivational interviewing skills, including its spirit (partnership, acceptance, compassion, empowerment), the four tasks, and responding to change talk and sustain talk.
