About

Dave, the founder of Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) at the Justice Resource Institute in Massachusetts, is credited with coining the term “trauma-sensitive yoga.” Between 2009 and 2011, he played a key role in curriculum development, supervision, and oversight of the yoga intervention component of a groundbreaking NIH-funded study evaluating the effectiveness of yoga for trauma survivors. Dave has extensive experience in leading TCTSY groups for various organizations such as rape crisis centers, domestic violence programs, youth residential programs, military personnel, survivors of terrorism, and Veterans Administration centers. He is a co-author of “Overcoming Trauma through Yoga” (2011) and the author of “Trauma-Sensitive Yoga in Therapy” (2015). Additionally, in 2018, Dave Emerson co-founded the Center for Trauma and Embodiment at JRI.
