Mastering Empathic Listening and Compassionate Practice: A Deeper Dive for Practitioners
Presented by: Stephen Andrew, LCSW, LADC, CCS, CGP
It is well known that being able to demonstrate empathic, compassionate understanding of clients results in better treatment outcomes. This mini course, also available as individual modules, is for practitioners looking to enhance their approach with clients who:
- Express ambivalence towards change
- Struggle with feelings of shame
- Feel deep shame and doubt about the future
Author and practitioner Stephen Andrew is among the most accomplished and sought-after motivational interviewing (MI) trainers in the world. Additionally, he has spent many years in private practice, treating men with histories of violence, trauma, and substance use disorders. As a result of his experiences, Stephen’s training and practice focus on developing a deep mastery of skills related to listening, demonstrating empathy, and having compassion for clients, even under the most difficult of circumstances.
This mini course takes a deep dive into the heart of compassionate communication. Although this mini course involves the use of MI skills, it is not an MI training and does not require past training in that area.
