Canada reluctant to extradite sex offenders to the U.S.


An article on the Florida Action Committee website reports that individuals who flee punishment in the United States for sex offenses are finding sanctuary in Canada because the Canadian Government disapproves of the draconian sanctions imposed on “registered sex offenders” in the U.S. According to the article:

Last year, Canada blocked the extradition of a man because he could potentially face “civil commitment” which is tantamount to life in prison, a sentence far harsher than he could ever face in Canada and what Canadians would consider to be cruel and unusual punishment.
