“The time is right for fresh leadership,” said Joe Acinapura, long-time board President. “Mary has impressed the board with her publishing savvy and her vision for the agency. While publishing is not the only activity of Safer Society, it is the primary source of operating revenue. The publishing world is changing fast. We believe Mary is the right person to guide the agency at this time.”

Along with her new responsibilities as Executive Director of the Safer Society Foundation and the Safer Society Press, Mary will continue to acquire new publications and direct the editorial and production operations of the Press.

Mary replaces Brenda Burchard, who took the reins of the agency in 2002. “Upon her departure, we thank Brenda for her significant contributions to the organization and wish her the very best in any future endeavor,” said Acinapura.

Safer Society is a nonprofit agency located in Brandon, Vermont. It works to end sexual abuse and personal violence. The organization was established in the early 1980s by peace advocate and civil rights activist Fay Honey Knopp, a pioneer in creating a national and international community of professionals focused on this important mission.
