Online Training Description:
The Static-99R is the most widely used actuarial risk assessment tool in the world for assessing sexual re-offense risk of adult males. It has undergone extensive empirical research, establishing it as a trusted and validated tool for assessing sexual re-offense. This tool has undergone significant development, evolving from the original Static-99 to include an expanded version that better reflects the protective value of advancing age.
In this training, Certified Trainer Katie Gotch provides a thorough overview of the Static-99R, including its development, scoring system, and application in various settings. Participants learn how to score each of the ten items, with scores ranging from -3 to 12, and understand how these scores categorize individuals into five distinct risk levels: very low, below average, average, above average, and well above average risk.
The training also covers the predictive validity of the Static-99R and its appropriate use in forensic settings. Case studies are utilized to enhance understanding and facilitate skill development throughout the training.
The training consists of two half-day sessions and is designed as a live-only training to facilitate interactive discussions among participants and the presenter. This format provides an intensive learning experience while accommodating participants’ workplace commitments.
As a result of participating in this training, attendees will be better able to:
1) Describe the development and research foundation for the Static-99R
2) Identify why each item of the Static-99R is risk relevant
3) Use the scoring manual efficiently to score cases
4) Use the Static-99R as a risk assessment measure in your practice
5) Apply scoring criteria in common as well as challenging situations
6) Describe considerations for using the Static-99R with different ethnic groups
7) Describe considerations for using Static-99R with transgender individuals
8) Identify limitations to the use of Static-99R
